Description
Hylomar Universal Blue is a polyester urethane based sealant that is non-setting and nonhardening
even at high temperatures. The compound is resistant to a wide range of fluids including
all industrial fuels, oils, water and brine, air, turbine and piston engine combustion products, water,
water/glycol and methanol mixtures, petroleum and synthetic diester lubricating oils, gasoline and
kerosene fluids (Avtur & Avcat) and fluorocarbon refrigerants. Hylomar Universal Blue can be used
to seal joint faces or threaded parts.

Instructions for use
Hylomar Universal Blue should be applied to clean dry surfaces. Apply a thin film or bead to one or
both surfaces. Once applied, sufficient time should be allowed for the solvent to evaporate. Unlimited
assembly time allows precise alignment of joints to be made. Due to the nature of the compound,
fasteners may be required to be re-tightened to the correct torque.
Hylomar Universal Blue can be removed from dismantling components by rubbing with a cloth soaked
with Easy Clean Solvent, Hylomar Gasket Remover or Hylomar Rally and Grand Prix Wipes. No
scraping is necessary.






Typical Applications
Hylomar Universal Blue enables the effective sealing of metal to metal and plastic to plastic
components. Typical applications include water and oil pumps, instrument inspection covers,
cylinder heads and sumps, and it can also be used for the coating for pre-formed gaskets, weather
proofing, motors and outdoor high voltage circuit breakers. Inlet manifolds, timing case covers, oil
pump joints, gear box and transmission components or thread sealing it has also been successfully
been used in the assembly of gas turbines, water cool generators and turbo vacuum systems.
There is no staining of copper and silver, etc., from traces of volatiles at elevated temperature, and
is therefore suitable for joints, and threads in close proximity to switch mechanisms, etc.
Light grade: inlet manifolds, timing case covers, oil pump joints, gearbox and transmission
components, thread sealing and any finely machined surface.
Medium grade: water and oil pumps, instrument inspection covers, cylinder heads, sumps and
most machined surfaces.
Heavy grade: gas turbines, water cooled generators, turbo vacuum systems, gearboxes and most
rough machined surfaces.

Hylomar Universal Blue is available in 40 g tube, 100 g tube, 350 g cartridge, 250 ml brush top tin, 1
litre screw top tin, 5 litre screw top tin, 6.5 kg lever lid tin, 25 kg kegs and aerosols. For Technical Data

The shelf life of Hylomar Universal Blue is 24 months when stored in unopened original containers

  1. How does Marston Jointing Compound work ?


    An essential component in steam and gas turbine power plants are the turbine pedestal bearings. These oil lubricated plain bearings support the entire weight of turbine journal bearings, the turbine shaft and blade assembly (the rotor) and the turbine shell. The turbine pedestal bearing’s function is to allow for thermal expansion, permitting the turbine shell to easily slide and follow the turbine rotor as the turbine assembly expands and contracts. With steam temperature exceeding 1000 degrees F, this expansion can be more than 1/2 inch; both axially and radially.

    Marston is developed for application in the pedestal bearing flanges. It is resistant against mineral oils and synthetic oils, fuels, additives, gases, water, anti-freeze, etc. With a unique curtaining action, when pedestal bearing flanges sealed with Marston expand, Marston stretches, and then breaks cohesively, leaving sealant on both sides. When the flanges return together, the putty reseals, a self-healing mechanism. This makes Marston a particularly effective sealant on close fitting large flanges which are subject to extreme vibration, distortion, or joint movement, because while the seal may break for a microsecond, it reseals and the pedestal bearing fluids remain contained avoiding any leakage from the flange avoiding the risk of a fire.

    With a higher temperature resistance and better bonding properties than other oil resistant sealing compounds, this product is formulated to avoid corrosion on any metals, and resist mineral as well as synthetic fluids used for oil circulation systems. The non-hardening property allows for several assembly and disassembly without reapplication. For this, its unique red color allows for easy identification on the flange surfaces.

    When used in conjunction with old used gaskets as a gasket dressing material, it can supplement the sealing effect and avoid the downtime associated with the lead times of waiting for a replacement gasket. All threaded joints can be sealed against leakages with the application of Marston. The drops of oil that normally leaks from the shopfloor machines that can cause slips and falls is 100% sealed with Marston on threads. These threaded joints can be easily opened as well unlike in case of other thread sealing compounds that work on the basis of creating a rigid sealing material to stop oil leakage but need a higher torque to break open sometime damaging the threads. Marston is non-hardening in nature so while it seals the threads it also allows for easy opening for maintenance.

    With every box of 10 tubes Marston 80ml, you get a Marston Cleaner absolutely free so you do not need to look around for a cleaner to clean the surfaces before sealing. Just apply the cleaner, let dry for a minute and apply Marston. With its non-hardening characteristics you get unlimited assembly time when required.
